TORONTO – August 6, 2026 – Cross-Border Impact Ventures (CBIV) today announced the first close of its second fund, the Women’s and Children’s Health Technology Fund II, securing US$58 million toward a target fund size of US$125 million. The new fund has attracted commitments from both returning and new institutional investors, reflecting continued confidence in CBIV’s investment strategy, team, and track record. LPs in the new fund include returning investors who doubled down, including KfW on behalf of German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the Skoll Foundation with its OCIO – Capricorn Investment Group, Ceniarth, Equality Fund with its OCIO – RockCreek Group, Wire Group, and several family offices and high-net-worth individuals, among others. CBIV expects to complete the final close of Fund II in 2027.
CBIV invests in companies developing technologies that address conditions affecting women and children specifically, differently or disproportionately at the Series A or B stage. CBIV’s inaugural US$90.3 million Fund I invested in 11 technology companies spanning maternal and fetal health, neonatal care, cardiovascular disease, oncology, respiratory health, reproductive health and gut health. Fund I had a successful strategic exit and helped the portfolio reach more than 356,000 women and children across 32 countries.
Fund II represents a disciplined evolution of CBIV’s original investment thesis while maintaining its focus on early-growth-stage deep tech companies commercializing medical devices, diagnostics, therapeutics, and AI-enabled digital health technologies with the potential to generate strong financial returns alongside measurable health outcomes. CBIV has also introduced an integrated climate lens into its investment process for Fund II, has further strengthened its impact approach, and may invest earlier in some high-potential companies.
Investing at the Intersection of Innovation, Returns, and Impact
Fund II comes as women’s and children’s health emerges as one of healthcare’s most significant investment opportunities. CBIV estimates that its sectors of interest represent a US$625 billion market today, projected to grow to US$1.1 trillion by 2035, driven by advances in AI, diagnostics, medical devices and precision medicine, alongside growing recognition that addressing longstanding gaps in women’s and children’s healthcare represents both a societal imperative and a significant commercial opportunity.
“Women’s and children’s health is one of the largest and most attractive opportunities in healthcare today,” said Annie Thériault, Managing Partner at Cross-Border Impact Ventures. “We’re seeing a convergence of scientific innovation, policy support and institutional capital that is accelerating the development of technologies with the potential to improve millions of lives. This is a true blue sky opportunity — one where competition remains limited, and the potential to generate outsized returns is significant. Fund I validated our investment strategy, and Fund II allows us to build on that momentum at a time when the market is ripe for investment.”
Beyond Capital: Building Global Health Technology Companies
Since launching in 2021, CBIV has built a specialized venture platform for women’s and children’s health technologies. The firm has reviewed more than 2,000 investment opportunities since launching Fund I, investing selectively in 11 companies that exemplify its strategy of backing differentiated technologies with the potential to deliver both strong commercial returns and measurable health impact.
Beyond providing capital, the firm works closely with companies to accelerate commercialization, support regulatory and market expansion strategies, access non-dilutive funding, strengthen governance through active board participation, and expand access to healthcare in underserved markets through its impact platform. This approach has helped CBIV portfolio companies secure FDA clearances, complete strategic exits, expand into more than 30 countries, attract follow-on investment, and scale across high-income, low- and middle-income markets.
Among the portfolio’s notable milestones:
● Sonio, an AI-powered fetal ultrasound software company, was acquired by Samsung Medison in 2024. The integration of Sonio’s technology into Samsung ultrasound systems is currently underway, with the goal of expanding access globally.
● Cardiosense received U.S. FDA De Novo approval for its PCWP Analysis Software™, a first-in-class technology that enables non-invasive assessment of a critical indicator of heart failure, including forms of the disease that affects 1.5 million women in North America.
● mOm Incubators received FDA clearance for its neonatal incubator and has deployed devices across hospitals and humanitarian settings in multiple regions worldwide. So far, they estimate they have impacted 18,000 patients.
● Daye launched its patented diagnostic tampon for HPV and vaginal health screening, now piloted in the NHS and expanding into North America and Sub-Saharan Africa, with >13,000 patients served and peer-reviewed clinical validation across the UK, Tanzania and Nigeria.
CBIV’s investment and impact approach complies with the highest international standards, earning BlueMark Platinum status in 2024, SFDR Article 9 compliance, and multiple ImpactAssets Emerging Impact Manager designations.
“Fund I reinforced what we’ve believed from the beginning: some of the most compelling investment opportunities in healthcare exist in areas that have historically received too little attention,” said Donna Parr, Managing Partner at Cross-Border Impact Ventures. “Advances in AI, diagnostics, medical devices and precision medicine are creating entirely new opportunities to improve care for women and children while building highly valuable companies. We’re seeing growing recognition from investors that financial returns and measurable health impact are mutually reinforcing.”
